Australia Awards Philippine Scholarship

In line with the Australia-Philippines development cooperation program, Australia aims to improve basic education, improve the capacity of the local government to deliver basic services, strengthen the country’s adaptation to climate change which includes disaster risk management, and improve the peace and security conditions of the country. The program is administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Australia Awards and Alumni Engagement Program – Philippines, and is aligned with Australia’s development assistance in the Philippines.


The Australia Awards Scholarships have been an essential component of the Australian Government’s aid program in the Philippines. It provides high-achieving Filipino development leaders with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in Australia’s premier academic institutions and contribute to Philippine development.


The Australian Government offers Australia Awards Scholarships on the basis of merit, transparency and equal access, and encourages applications from women and minority groups. Special consideration will be accorded to people with disability and those directly working with PWD-recognized organizations.



Australia Awards offers 2 scholarship categories

  2. Targeted Category


Open Category


Open to Filipinos (public and private sectors) planning to pursue postgraduate studies related to approved priority areas.  Priority areas of study change depending on the current needs. The priority areas of study for 2018 Intake are:

  • Trade and Economics
  • Local Economic Development
  • Infrastructure
  • Peace and Development
  • Social Protection
  • Governance
  • Basic Education
  • Foreign Relations
  • Mining and Mining-Related Fields



Targeted Category

Open to permanent employees working in partner organisations with mandates supporting the mutual priorities of Australia and the Philippines as reflected in the Statement of Commitment for the Australia – Philippines Development Cooperation Strategy. The Program Board of the Australia Awards and Alumni Engagement Program – Philippines determines the partner organizations.




The Australia Awards Scholarships are for high-achieving Filipinos who demonstrate passion for intellectual pursuit and who are committed to development work. The program doesn’t have an age limit and is open to qualified applicants who meet the eligibility criteria below.


For the June 2018 intake, they are only accepting applications for master’s degree. Applicants should:

  • be a Filipino citizen and be residing in and applying for the scholarship in the Philippines, except for those working for the government in another country.
  • be a holder of a bachelor’s degree;
  • have at least two (2) years work experience, either in private or public sector. (On-the-job training and internships will not be credited to work experience)
  • not be applying for another long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia (for example, a previous awardee who has been on an Australia Awards Scholarship in Australia for four years will not be eligible to apply for another Australia Awards Scholarship until they have resided outside Australia for eight years)
  • Has achieved a satisfactory English Proficiency Result. 5 overall band in IELTS with no scores lower than 6.0; for PTE Academic results, have at least an overall score of 58, with no individual band score lower than 54; for TOEFL: 580 with TWE 4.5 for the paper-based test, 237 for the computer-based test, and 92 for the internet-based test.  Results should be valid until the intake year.
  • not be a citizen of Australia, hold permanent residency in Australia or be applying for a visa to live in Australia permanently
  • no pending residency or citizenship application in other countries;
  • not married to an Australian citizen or to a New Zealand citizen; not married or engage to be married to a person who holds or who is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residence status, at any time during the application, selection or mobilisation phases
  • not be a current serving military personnel
  • be able to take up the scholarship place in the academic year for which the award is offered;
  • should be willing to sign a contract with the Australian Government
  • should be willing to sign an agreement to fully implement the REAP.

Australia Awards Scholarships recipients receive full scholarships for the minimum period necessary to complete their academic program as specified by the university, including any preparatory training.


Scholarships are valued at up to AU$300,000 for a 4-year PhD and up to AU$ 200,000 for a master’s degree covering:

  • return air travel
  • a one off establishment allowance on arrival
  • full tuition fees
  • contribution to living expenses
  • introductory academic program
  • overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of the Scholarship
  • supplementary academic support and
  • fieldwork allowance–for research students and masters by course work which has a compulsory fieldwork component

Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships funded by the Australian Government. Australia Awards Scholarships provide an excellent opportunity to high-achieving Filipinos, who possess passion for intellectual pursuit and development work, to pursue post-graduate studies at an Australian tertiary institution.


A unique feature of the Australia Awards program in the Philippines is the scholars’ commitment to make a positive difference in their organizations and/or communities by completing a re-entry action plan upon their return to the Philippines. The Australia Awards Scholarships are part of the Australia-Philippines development cooperation and provide lasting contribution to Philippine development through education.


The Australia Awards Scholarships are highly-competitive and offered to Filipinos who have the potential to assume leadership roles to influence social and economic policy reforms, and drive development in the Philippines and the Asia Pacific region. The Awards provide full scholarship for master’s degrees including travel and living expenses, allowances, and healthcare benefits among others.

The online application is a quick and easy way to apply for the Australia Awards scholarship program.


Step 1: Check if you are eligible to apply by clicking the “Start Application” button below.


Step 2: You will be asked a series of questions.  If you are qualified, the system will direct you to a page where you can fill out the application form.  Only eligible applicants will be able to view the page.


Step 3:  Complete the application form; attach all the required documents.


Step 4. Finalize your application by clicking the SUBMIT button.
