Textured Vegetable Protein Diet For Weight Loss Help

Does a Textured Vegetable Protein Diet (TVP) saving you dollars for your weight and visceral fat loss goals? TVP is made from defatted soy protein flour or soy concentrate, cottonseed, wheat, or oats. It is the other name for the texturized vegetable protein, soy meat, soya chunks, or textured soy protein. The TVP is a highly nutritious soy product, known to be incredibly wealthy in complete protein, but contains no fat, which makes it as an excellent alternative to meat.

TVP is produced from soy flour after the soybean oil has been extracted, then cooked under pressure, extruded and dried. It is made from defatted soybean flakes. Usually, these are highly processed soy products that are found in a wide variety of foods.

 

Using water, heat and pressure, the ground flour is extruded, then cut and baked to add texture. It has a flavor of its own and needs to be rehydrated and flavored. You can do in one step though and then add it to your cooking.

 

 

 

To rehydrate the TVP

Pour 7/8 cup boiling water over 1 cup TVP. Stir and let stand 5 to 10 minutes.

 

You can also rehydrate using 2 parts of either cold or hot water to 1 part TVP.

 

Vegetarians need to be creative when it comes to meeting their protein needs and finding a good source of its alternative. The TVP, which is primarily made of soybeans, is an excellent meat replacement. Not only is TVP high in protein, but it has a high fiber content, thus giving it a boost over meat.

 

A serving of TVP has 12 grams of fiber, 32 grams of protein, and 26 grams of carbohydrates. Although it’s quite high in protein, it is also high in carbohydrates. A lot of the other valuable nutrients in soybeans, such as the isoflavones, were lost or altered during the processing.

 

Because many vegans end up with soy alternatives, such as soy yogurt, milk, cheese and other substitutes, they end up eating soy at every single meal without even realizing it. This is because the TVP is also used in sauces, casseroles, stews and other entrees.

 

 

People agree with the impression that if a food is plant or vegetarian based, then it is healthy. Whether it is an organic vegetable soup or meat alternative, as long as it is processed food, from a nutritional and functional perspective, it is still healthier to eat the real meat in moderation.

 

Isolated soy protein is another great source of protein. It is formed by taking the fat and the carbohydrates out of soybeans. You can mix the flavorless flourlike isolated soy protein with water, milk, or juice for a protein drink, or just simply use it in cooking.

 

 

Absorbs like tofu

TVP absorbs spices and flavorings well like the tofu. It is extremely versatile. A pound of the TSP will equal about three pounds of ground beef. One cup dry TSP reconstituted in one cup liquid yields about two cups.

 

TVP is 50% protein and low in sodium, but contains all the essential amino acids needed for growth. Being devoid of fat and cholesterol, it can help reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood cholesterol and increasing the flexibility of blood vessels.

 

The TVP is often used in catering as a meat extended to bulk out the meat content of some foods and keep the cost low. Soya beans are eaten as the main protein food in most Eastern countries.

 

 

The TVP is produced to provide cheap high quality protein foods. The nutritional content is similar to meat. However, during the processing the essential amino acids methionine and tryptophan are added making it a high biological food with low fat content.

 

This makes it useful for people aiming to lose weight because it is low in cholesterol and high in dietary fiber. The TVP is usually found in vegetarian foods to imitate meat products.

 

Most surgeons and dietitians agree the minimum daily requirement of protein is 60 grams. Some studies show that increasing your protein intake can maximize weight loss. Eating between 0.64 and 0.77 grams of protein per pound of body weight has shown the most benefit.
